Well, the last update here was a month ago so I feel it is long past due for an update. As always, this post is to help us keep the guild on-track and all officers on the same page. With the many time zones that we all cover, staying on the same page can be difficult, however, not impossible.
I feel that in the month the game has been out we have done well ... all things considered. First and foremost I think we have struck a good balance between Lore, Role-Play and OOC.
The only thing I would remind folks is that when using public channels (/say, /shout, etc) that you use proper rank and name or sir/ma’am. (This includes group chat if non-LoM members are in the group.) I have grouped with Aja and Kodoss and they do this very well – I am impressed with them both.
I have never had the luxury of talking to outside of /tell or group chat with Kedryn, Allandhra, and Shayla so I have no problems with them. I just wanted to pass on this reminder.
Let’s keep looking for good people to recruit. We cannot remain a guild of 6 people forever. There’s no RUSH to get invites, but let’s be keeping the door open ... this means talking to people in the game (while sticking to our Lore).
People like Shayla, who spends the majority of her time in the Cantina, would be a good point of contact for recruitment ... once she is properly groomed and a Full Member.
Top Three (GL, XO, 2O)
COMMUNICATION
All seems to be going well here. The one thing I think all three of us could do better is ‘in-game’ communication. For example, I see Kodoss almost every night. This is to be expected, as our time zones are similar. However, Kedryn I have only seen twice in game.
I believe this is an excellent situation for us ... in theory we could have a Guild Leader on 24/7 ... as long as we keep in contact. A simple ‘in-game’ e-mail message to one another or a post on the message board here just so we know that each other is active, would be great. I don’t want Kedryn to think that Kodoss and I are never around, and I don’t have to wonder if Kedryn has turned into Turin.
TACTICAL COMMANDER
Anyone who has ever grouped, raided, or hunted with me in the past knows how anal I am about a ‘perfect raid’. After being in one amazing raid guild in EQ (and a bunch of crappy or non-raid guilds in EQ and other games) I know quite well how raids ‘can’ go. Because of this, I am VERY picky on who I follow as a ‘Raid Leader’.
Now let me first say that I am NOT a good raid leader ... Tactical Commander. I can do it and I have done it, but I should never be the first choice to lead a strike unless you know I have done it before – successfully.
What does the Tactical Commander do?
The mission of the Tactical Commander is to ensure the success of the mission in the most efficient manner possible. The Tactical Commander is the official field commander of Legion of Myth. To this end, Tactical Commander’s word is the Law when on the battlefield (hunting groups, raids, etc). This means that even I as Guild Leader listen to and obey the directives of the tactical Commander to ensure a successful mission.
After grouping with him more than a few times, and comparing his tactics to those employed in some of the other groups I have been in, I am designating LtC Kodoss as the Tactical Commander for Legion of Myth (SWG). He reminds me greatly of the raid guild I was in and their ability to conquer foes that took other groups and guilds three times the numbers to accomplish.
LtC Kodoss, this added responsibility gives you the following authority:
- Full command rights in any LoM group or strike team in regards to combat actions and tactics.
- To create a cadre of Tactical Commanders under your guidance.
If you see someone who you believe would make an excellent Tactical Commander, begin to groom that person ... much like you have been doing with me but even more so. Put them through a training process in which they could lead a strike if you were unavailable to do so.
The only one I can think of for the moment who may be qualified for this is Aja. However, Aja is still a Recruit and will be away until September while he moves to Germany. (Kedryn, let me know if you have an interest as well. I haven’t grouped with you enough to know if this is a strong point for you.)
It also incurs the following responsibilities:
- To keep your tactical information up to date so that we are always fighting in the most efficient and successful manner.
- Passing along information regarding tactical techniques – such as:
... how to successfully hunt Jax Lairs while leaving the Jax themselves alone.
... how to equip a weapon in which you have little or no skill to create easier missions.
... if a strike goes well, how/why did it go well?
... if a strike goes bad, how/why did it go bad?
WEB PAGE
My laptop should be here soon. When it gets here, I’ll be revamping the web page. Suggestions are always welcome.
GUILD FORMATION
I will look into this. I apologize for not doing so before now, but I didn’t think that forming a guild in SWG was going to be such an occult secret.
Senior Officers
With Kha’max leaving the galaxy, we are now without a recruitment officer. I’ll take up the mantle temporarily, but I’d rather someone actually took over this position.
Allandhra, Aja and Shayla are now in your auspices for mentorship. Both are doing fine, but I just wanted to let you know that as OIC of Internal Relations, you may want to check up on them from time to time.
Junior Officers
You guys fill a very hard role – you are like the middle child, always forgotten until there are chores to do. As Junior Officers you are going to be tasked with many responsibilities throughout time. Look to your SrOs for guidance, but don’t expect them to hold your hand.
Your primary goals are:
~ 1: To be the first line of communication for the FMs. You have to be ready to answer their questions and handle their complaints ... or at least know who to send them too. If you don’t have the answer for them, get it. We need YOU to know what’s going on in your squads/groups/whatever. We need you to look out for the membership while keeping the guilds ideals and rules in mind.
~ 2: To lead squads, details and smaller groups/organizations.
For All of us to remember:
Remember this saying, always: ”I do not care if you are unable to (can’t) perform or unwilling to (won’t) perform, the fact is you are not performing and that is not acceptable.”
There is no disgrace in being demoted from officer to Full Member if it is for the betterment of the guild. The only disgrace comes in being ‘dead weight’ and/or removed from the guild altogether.
Remember volunteers work much better than ordering someone to do something. Seek out volunteers first, unless the situation is an emergency.
If you ever have a question, ask. We are here to help each other. I know this post may have sounded kind of mean or over bearing at times and for that I apologize. But after what happened to OOB, we have to keep ourselves on track.
Stick to the Lore ... Encourage Role Playing!
Thank you all and feel free to post comments and questions.
