Guild Leaders (General, Colonel, and Lieutenant Colonel):
It is up to us to lead this guild by working hand in hand with each other. In our system, the General is the overall guild manager. It is the General’s job to manage the growth and direction of the guild. It is an all encompassing and all inclusive task. The General has no specific duties except to be the leader and manager of the Legion of Myth as a whole.
In its basic concept, the General receives information from and gives direction to the XO and 2O. However, I find that to be rather elitist and tends to cause a gap between membership and leadership. So I like to take a more ‘hands-on’ approach. You will rarely see me have the Colonel or LtCol praise or reprimand something. Whether it’s right or wrong, I feel that I should take those responsibilities upon myself.
That doesn’t mean that I never will or never have had the Col or LtCol praise or reprimand someone, it simple means that I ‘prefer’ it to come from the top. IT all depends on the issue, how much time I have ... and some other factors that I won’t get into here.
With that said, if the Col or LtCol do see someone deserving of praise or reprimand, they are well within their right to approach the issue.
While the General is the guild manager, the Colonel and LtCol are the guild’s operational commanders. They both oversee all Senior Officers to ensure that the Senior Officers are performing their functions and to provide help and guidance where needed. They ensure that the Senior Officers have a plan and are sticking to the plan. ALL Senior Officers answer directly to the Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel.
The Colonel and LtCol are also provided the authority to act on their own in the best interest of the Legion of Myth. They are held in special trust by the General and their orders and decisions are not to be questioned by any other than the General.
Guild leaders MUST remain active in-game and on the message board in order to provide an effective leadership structure and a cohesive guild.
So, in short, the positions of the Guild Leaders are:
- General: Guild Manager
- Colonel: Guild Operations Commander
- Lieutenant Colonel: Deputy Guild Operations Commander
Senior Officers (Major, Captain, Lieutenant):
Senior Officers are the commanders of and area of control within the Legion of Myth. We currently have four (4) areas of control within the Legion of Myth: External Relations, Internal Relations, Loremaster, and Recruitment.
Senior Officers are to create and follow through with a plan for their respective area of control. For example (and this is a simplified example only); the Recruitment SrO determines that he needs a team in order to effectively coordinate proper recruitment. So he sets up the following plan of action:
- He types up a draft recruitment letter for LoM. (Which is approved by the guild leaders).
- He creates four (4) Junior Officer positions: two for Message Board advertising, one for reading through and responding to the e-mail applications, and 1 for managing the status of all applicants.
- He creates a ___ step process for recruitment
Step 1: The two Message Board JrOs post the recruitment letter on their assigned message boards. Who are required to check back with their respective boards at least once every two days (preferably one a day) to answer any responses.
Step 2: The e-mail JrO reads through the application e-mail and compares it to what the message board JrOs have to say about the applicant. (i.e. Maybe the applicant posts like a d3wd, but his application is entirely professional). In this they compare notes and work together. Within the allotted time (given in the SrO’s plan) the e-mail JrO responds back to the applicant with the Applicant Reply Letter or with a professionally worded negative response.
Step 3: The Applicant Status JrO ensures that everything is being done in a timly manner and keeps all information correct and accurate. This is the JrO who the SrO would approach for a ‘metric’ regarding an individual applicant’s status. This JrO would also be the one to send such information to the appointed JrO under the Loremaster for recruit historical documents.
Although all plans have to be approved by a GL, the SrO is free to design his position how he feels. The approval process is there so that the GLs know that the SrO has a plan and can ensure the plan is working ... or help streamline it. Nothing ... and I mean NOTHING ... is a one person process.
The SrO oversees the position; given our small size, the SrO currently has to do all the legwork of the position, too. But as we grow, the SrO will turn into a leader and manager and les of a worker.

So, in short, Senior officers plan and manage their area of control, ensuring that their charge is running efficiently, accurately and timely.
Junior Officers (Commander, Sub-Commander, Force Leader, Assistant Force Leader):
Junior Officers are simply members who warrant extra responsibility - and with that responsibility comes the recognition of rank. Although not truly leaders within LoM, their extra responsibility and extra effort above simply logging in and playing the game earn them extra respect (via rank and title).
Junior Officers are responsible for a specific task within the Legion of Myth. This could be as simple as checking LoM Harvesters on a regular basis, or as involved as being a raid coordinator. These positions will fluctuate as guild size and needs fluctuate.
Junior Officers MUST remain active in-game and on the message board in order to effectively perform their assigned task.
So, in short, Junior Officers are responsible for and in charge of specific details within the Legion of Myth.
I will say this again and again ... and I want you to think of yourself when you read this:
There is no disgrace in being demoted from officer to Full Member if it is for the betterment of the guild. The only disgrace comes in being ‘dead weight’ and/or removed from the guild altogether.
”I do not care if you are unable to (can’t) perform or unwilling to (won’t) perform, the fact is you are not performing and that is not acceptable.”
