i hope everyone has discovered the waypoint window. you activate it in the options panel (where you can also decativate those stupid arrows all over your screen) in the misc section i believe.
the waypoint window has an easy to read interface showing direction, waypoint name, and distance.
and even better... you'll never have to go to the waypoint screen again unless you need to create or rename a waypoint. you simply right click the window, and a drop down list shows all waypoints and you can then click to activate or deactivate any of them that you have created. it automatically filters by planet (i believe) and you can also double click on an activated waypoint to deactivate it.
i thought i might mention this since it seemed some people were would occasionally say something like "let me check real quick" when asked how far their missions were. not sure if they were looking on the map or what. but trust me this is very useful window.

Oh wow! I never even considered the fact that people WOULDN'T have this on their screen. YES YES YES ... use this ... make sure it is on!!
~ Go to Options: Either via the wrench icon or (Ctrl + O) ~ Click the Misc ~ You will see "Onscreen Waypoint Monitor" - make sure the box next to is is marked!
